Complete Information Teleferico

The idea to built a teleferico transportation system on "Cerro San Cristóbal" start in 1974. Two years later the company involved in the project signed 25 years agreement with chilean government to manage the teleferic system.

In only 12 months they could make fly this invent. The biggest problem was the elevation of 12 towers. They measure between 8 and 38,5 meters. The stone's hill was very complicate to build the towers, that is the reason why they opened later.

The Teleferico was opened on april 1, 1980. To this event went some importants personalities like ministers and mayors.

This beatiful excursion has 72 colorfuls cabins with capacity for 4 persons each one. It has a speed of 4 meters by second and the distance between them is the 48 meters. The total distance (return and back) is the 4052 meters . A thick cable ( it passes over the towers ) support the cabins.

In Estacion Oasis, is the principal motor with a capacity of 100 HP. In this area is the control panel, that mainteins the speed of the wind, cabins and shows if there are any problem.

The excurssion on Teleferico comunicates 3 stations. Oasis is in "Pedro de Valdivia Norte". Then is "San Cristóbal" or Tupahue station, where you can enjoy with The Cultural Building "Anahuac" and its interestings expositions, The Victoria Turret with the best of our artesany, the Botanical Garden "Mapulemu", The Tupahue swimming pool, the Wine Museum and much more.
Finally, in the Estación Cumbre, we can find the Funicular and the Virgin.
